The Society's Aim is to promote the study of all branches of Science and Natural History. That aim is pursued vigorously and time has allowed the society to build up an impressive foundation.

The Society's headquarters at 39 Christchurch Road, is a listed building which provides the venue for its lectures and meetings. It was built in the 1870's and was originally called "Bassendean". It houses a museum and library, and stands in a botanical garden with many interesting specimens. Members may borrow books from the library and there is a reading room where works of reference may be consulted, including a wide range of CDs. The museum contains a large number of valuable collections and artifacts. For more information on these click on the links above.

A programme of events comprising some 100 or more lectures, study groups, field meetings, cultural visits and social events continues throughout each year. An idea of the extent of these will be found by clicking on 'Programme' in the links above. Talks are given on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday afternoons and Saturday afternoons. Other events are at times as listed on the 'Programme' page.

The activities of the society are managed by an elected Council and run by a number of Sections. A link above gives an account of the activities of each Section. Why not take a look at your own particular interest.

Membership is open to all who are interested in the objects of the Society. More information is given in the 'Membership' link above.

Visitors are welcome at all our events. Visitors are welcome to see the museum collections on Tuesday mornings between 10.00 a.m. and 12.00 noon by appointment. Contact information is at the foot of this page. If you want to attend a field meeting or lecture please contact us in the same way. Groups from schools, universities or other educational establishments are also welcome by appointment to see the museum collections or to attend lectures.
