As well as the general museum specimens, which are many and include different species of reptiles, fish, coral and other invertebrates such as a huge tropical shell collection, we have some marvellous examples of deer and gazelle antlers and horns from around the world which also include certain cattle-like species.
Cabinets also display various skulls of felines and other carnivores such as lions and tigers. There are also very interesting teeth of mammals of a bygone age such as wild boar and rhinocerous, along with those of our wild horse ancestors. Various jawbones of strange fish and even alligators are either on display or stored away, such as a huge collection of pickled animals ranging from human parasites to leaches and liver flukes, jellyfish, frogs, snakes, starfish, octopi and examples of other strange life.
A large mammal diorama holds stuffed mammals and birds. These include mustelids, deer, foxes, red squirrels and an otter, plus various deer skulls and antlers.
Field trips have been made to a variety of places to see different animal life in its natural habitat and will continue, ranging from deer watching in the New Forest, badger watching, reptile hunting, marine rockpool sifting, toad and frogspawning vigils, fungus hunting, and spider identifying on our many heathland sites.
Study meetings will include debates about evolution, anthropology and new found animal species. Videos on a range of subjects concerning wildlife may also be shown, plus lectures on mammals, reptiles, fish etc., throughout the year.
